The Department of African, African American, and Diaspora Studies stands in solidarity with those protesting institutionalized racism, police misconduct, and all forms of discrimination that infringe upon the civil rights and human dignity of groups and individuals.  As a unit dedicated to studying, researching, and teaching about the histories, cultures, and experiences of Black people around the globe, we are especially invested in the present struggles against injustice and anti-Black violence.  We encourage both campus-wide and national engagement with the issues that have been highlighted in recent demonstrations, including police brutality, systemic inequities, and exploitation, and support those who advocate for a more just future for Black people and others in the United States and elsewhere.
