The Department of African, African American & Diaspora Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill is proud to announce the launch of its graduate program in Africana Studies. Located in the heart of North Carolina’s Research Triangle, the Department offers a global program of advanced study, with geographical tracks in Africa, the US, and the Latin American/Caribbean regions, as well as thematic concentrations in Literary Studies and Cultural Production; Gender, Sexuality, and Feminism; Public Policy, Politics, and Social Change; and Histories of the Africana World.

Application instructions can be found here at our website, and the deadline to apply for Fall 2025 admission is December 10, 2024. The department offers competitive, multi-year funding packages to applicants admitted into the Ph.D. program.
