Webinar: Race and Police Conduct in the U.S.: History and Context

June 19, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

AAAD will host a moderated Webinar forum on June 19 from 3-4:30pm, discussing the history and contemporary context of racism, police conduct, and criminal justice in the U.S. The aim of this forum is to provide the historical context and broader societal repercussions of instances of police brutality against African Americans. How are high profile cases of brutality shaped by systemic inequalities and racism in the U.S. today? In what ways do recent cases of police violence connect to a longer history of state sanctioned discrimination and brutality against African Americans?

The forum will feature four prominent scholars of African American and African diaspora studies: Kia Caldwell, Professor of AAAD; Claude Clegg, Distinguished Professor of AAAD and History; Kenneth Janken, Professor of AAAD; and Ronald Williams, Assistant Professor of AAAD.
