In addition to the opportunities below, the Department holds an annual Undergraduate Research Conference in the spring semester. UNC students interested in participating should contact the Department.

Moore Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program

MURAP’s objective is to foster the entrance of talented students from diverse backgrounds into graduate school and faculty positions within the humanities, social sciences, and fine arts in U.S. colleges and universities. More broadly, the program seeks to increase the number of minorities and others who demonstrate a commitment to eradicating racial disparities and who will pursue graduate work and faculty positions within the academy. MURAP aims to achieve its mission by identifying and supporting students of great promise and helping them to become scholars of the highest distinction.

Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program

The mission of the UNC-CH McNair Scholars Program is to provide 25 undergraduate students the support they need to advance into doctoral programs in their chosen field of study. The program assists McNair Scholars in building their repertoire of knowledge and skills needed to interpret and access the professional graduate education culture. The overall objective is to increase the number of PhD recipients throughout the nation and to achieve this goal, we continue to serve as a bridge between undergraduate and doctoral programs.

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship

Offered by the Office of Undergraduate Research, this opportunity grants $3,000 to support summer research projects in all disciplines. Students may also submit their application for consideration under the Honors Carolina program.

Office of Undergraduate Research

The Office of Undergraduate Research offers Undergraduate Research Support grants. These are awards of up to $750 for those students who need essential supplies to go forward with a feasible research project.

Carolina Research Scholars Program

The goal of the Carolina Research Scholars Program is to foster and expand undergraduate research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Under the umbrella of the Office for Undergraduate Research (OUR), CRSP aims to build an undergraduate community based on research, scholarship, and inquiry-driven learning. To this end, participants in CRSP who successfully meet the Program’s requirements will be recognized for their contributions to UNC’s intellectual and cultural climate with a designation on their transcript appropriately termed “Carolina Research Scholar.”
